Heidt and Lackenbauer provide the first systematic account of the Joint Arctic Weather Stations, a collaborative science program between Canada and the US with five stations that created a distinctive state presence in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago from 1946 to 1972. The study began as part of Lackenbauer's broader initiative to re-evaluate Canadian-American relations in the early Cold War Arctic. Among their topics are background: the long build-up, situating the first stations, science at the stations, getting along at the top of the world, and Canadianization: getting out of hand.
