KRITIS: The Hidden Power of Europe is a strategic analysis of critical infrastructure as the foundation of modern societal stability.

Dr. Raphael Nagel and Marcus Köhnlein examine how energy systems, digital networks, logistics, healthcare, and industrial capacities form the structural backbone of European sovereignty. The book moves beyond technical definitions and presents critical infrastructure as an interconnected system whose resilience determines economic stability, political independence, and social order.

At the center of the analysis is the 72-hour window-the critical phase in which infrastructure disruptions evolve into systemic crises. Through structured scenarios, regulatory frameworks, and operational models, the authors show how vulnerabilities emerge and how resilience can be built across organizations and sectors.

The book integrates perspectives from security policy, industrial strategy, governance, and technology. It addresses regulatory developments such as NIS2, organizational responsibility, and the growing role of automation and security robotics in maintaining operational capability under stress.

KRITIS is not a theoretical discussion. It is a practical framework for decision-makers who are responsible for systems whose failure is not an option.

Written for executives, infrastructure operators, policymakers, security professionals, and investors, this work provides a structured understanding of how stability is created, maintained, and protected in complex societies.

Sovereignty begins with structure.

And structure begins with infrastructure.
