Usual ex-library markings. Volumes 1 to 3 published in 1966 and housed in a pictorial slipcase (edgeworn at extremities with a few scratches, the longest 6" on the back). Volume 1 is 315 pages with bibliography. Volume 2 and 3 contain 553 pages of B/W and full-colour plates. Each of the 3 volumes in the slipcase has an iconographic index as well as 12 plans and sections to help the reader situate the frescoes and mosaics. All 3 are in very good condition save for sunning of the spines. Volume 4 is 370 pp. exlcuding extensive B/W plates, and was issued 7 years after the first 3 volumes, The spine and upper edge of front cover are sunned, and one wishes it had been issued in a slipcase of its own. Essays in volume 4 include: The Artistic Climate in Byzantium during the Paleologan Period by Andre Grabar; Theodore Metochites, the Chora, and the Intellectual Trends of His Time by Ihor Sevcenko; Spiritual Trends in Byzantium in the Late 13th and Early 14th Centuries by John Meyendorff; The Style of the Kariye Djami and Its Place in the Development of Paleologan Art by Otto Demus; Iconography of the Cycle of the Life of the Virgin by Jacqueline Lafontaine-Dosogne; Iconography of the Cycle of the Life of Christ by Jacqueline Lafontaine-Dosogne; Some Problems in Programs and Iconography of Ministry Cycles by Paul A. Underwood; Program and Iconography of the Frescoes of the Parecclesion by Sirarpie Der Nercessian. Although the set was housed in an academic library, the books are in such good condition that it seems the scholars there consulted them rarely. Oversized set may require additional shipping.
