A revised translation of the 13th German edition (Georg Thieme Verlag, 1989) of a classic text in the field of radiography since 1910 (the 3rd English edition of 1968 was based on the 11th German edition). The present edition conforms to a modern didactic approach: after an introduction that relates the normal findings during growth and in adults, each section describes the variants and anomalies, continues with a discussion of injuries and necroses, and closes with a presentation of acquired conditions. The exposition invokes cardinal radiologic features and, as in the previous editions, the presentation of conventional radiographic images prevails since plain film remains the primary examination in diagnosing skeletal conditions.
