The novelist and journalist was Henry Fielding's sister, and took an active part in the development of the English novel, and also in the emancipation of women's minds. Historical fiction which, and not a novel in the conventional sense; indeed, in so far as Sarah Fielding presents her two heroine's two lives in parallel, her model is Plutarch. But each life is delivered as a first-person narrative-it is fictional autobiography. Originally issued in 1757.
