Taking a multi-disciplinary focus, this book examines language development, from birth to adulthood, and the role culture plays in its development. Based on sound research and evidence-based practices, it provides an introduction to the science and theory of language development, the building blocks of language, and the neuroanatomy and neurophysiology of language. Separate chapters discuss language development in infancy, toddlerhood, preschool, and school age years. Coverage of language diversity and language disorders in children is also presented. Each chapter includes reader friendly features (graphs, charts, tables, etc.), emphasizes multicultural considerations and highlights the current language development research activities of an established scientist.

LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT FROM THEORY TO PRACTICE
Khara L. Pence
Laura M. Justice
An introductory language development text needs to provide a comprehensive overview of the field, but it also needs to engage and excite the reader. Language Development from Theory to Practice by Khara L. Pence and Laura M. Justice exceeds these criteria and provides readers with a theoretical and scientific foundation for the study of language development while also making the material relevant to current and future experiences in clinical, educational, and research settings.
