Paperback. Nothing has gone wrong. That's the problem. You didn't get a bad phone call. Nobody left. You're washing a mug, or sitting in the car outside your own front door, and the thought arrives anyway: this wasn't supposed to be my life. Most books about change promise you speed. This one offers something rarer - honesty about what it actually costs to stop lying to yourself.Drawing on years of watching ordinary people quietly rearrange their lives, The Life We Keep Postponing maps the five reconstructions almost everyone passes through: learning to see your life without defending it, telling yourself the truth about your part in it, surviving the people you love, grieving what can't be repaired, and finding your way back to a life that is actually yours. There are no systems here. No morning routines. Just a set of distinctions sharp enough that certain sentences - I don't have time, that's life, I manage - become harder to say.Written for anyone with a good life they no longer recognise. A clear-eyed account of the slow drift away from ourselves and the unglamorous work of coming back. Written with the calm of someone who has watched it happen many times and refuses to sell an easy answer. This item is printed on demand. Nothing has gone wrong. That's the problem.
You didn't get a bad phone call. Nobody left. You're washing a mug, or sitting in the car outside your own front door, and the thought arrives anyway: this wasn't supposed to be my life.
Most books about change promise you speed. This one offers something rarer — honesty about what it actually costs to stop lying to yourself.
Drawing on years of watching ordinary people quietly rearrange their lives, The Life We Keep Postponing maps the five reconstructions almost everyone passes through: learning to see your life without defending it, telling yourself the truth about your part in it, surviving the people you love, grieving what can't be repaired, and finding your way back to a life that is actually yours.
There are no systems here. No morning routines. Just a set of distinctions sharp enough that certain sentences — I don't have time, that's life, I manage — become harder to say.
Written for anyone with a good life they no longer recognise. A clear-eyed account of the slow drift away from ourselves and the unglamorous work of coming back. Written with the calm of someone who has watched it happen many times and refuses to sell an easy answer.
