The Light Within is the second book that Michael Fitzgibbons has written. His first book, a novel titled My Senior Year, is a gripping coming of age story about Sully, an adolescent boy trying to find his way in a mixed up world. This time around, Fitzgibbons unleashes a different side of his literary voice. The Light Within is an enticing collection of narrative poetry. The consummate storyteller, Fitzgibbons has a unique poetic voice that allows readers immediate access into the hearts of his characters. Further, his poems place readers in the midst of “fork-in-the-road moments” that challenge them to find their own way. His belief in people, the power of relationships, and the importance of story all shine through from cover to cover of this poetry collection. Readers will walk away from The Light Within feeling challenged, but ultimately enlightened. Challenged to identify their own stories within the stories of those whom they encounter on the pages of this collection. And enlightened when they find them.
