Line of Truth (Paperback)

Paperback. Abstract - Line of TruthLine of Truth presents a sweeping journey through the history of Western thought, tracing the evolving pursuit of knowledge from ancient empiricism to contemporary cognitive science and artificial intelligence. Mario Lavarello explores truth not as a static object or abstract concept, but as a dynamic, living process: a spiraling movement of consciousness from representation to meaning, from symbol to life. The book proposes a unifying framework for understanding human cognition, integrating philosophy, psychology, biology, and ethics into a comprehensive vision of knowledge.Beginning with the classical rationalist tradition, Lavarello examines the emergence of structured thought through empiricism, rationalism, and idealism, highlighting how reason establishes the foundation for intelligibility while revealing its limitations when detached from life's complexity. The narrative then engages with the symbolic and unconscious dimensions of truth, drawing on Freud, Jung, and existentialist thinkers to demonstrate that human understanding is profoundly shaped by lived experience, dreams, archetypes, and the ethical responsibility of freedom. In this context, the symbol serves as the bridge between rational comprehension and the depth of human experience, mediating the connection between the individual and the collective, the mind and the cosmos. The work advances further into the biological and cognitive sciences, analyzing the contributions of Humberto Maturana and Francisco Varela. Here, truth is understood as autopoietic coherence: living systems, including human consciousness, are self-producing networks whose knowledge emerges from the ongoing maintenance and interaction with their environments. This perspective redefines epistemology as an active, life-embedded process, emphasizing that knowing is inseparable from living, and that ethical and ecological awareness is inherent to understanding the world. Finally, Lavarello bridges these classical and scientific frameworks with contemporary technology, exploring the implications of artificial intelligence. Neural networks and generative AI models are interpreted as digital monads, systems that mirror the cognitive processes of living beings, yet highlight the necessity of consciousness and ethical guidance. Throughout, the Line of Truth demonstrates that truth is not an accumulation of facts or a mere correspondence between mind and world, but a dynamic, participatory process: a continual integration of structure, experience, symbol, and life. This book is at once philosophical treatise, historical exploration, and guide for contemporary reflection. It presents a profound synthesis that unites metaphysics, logic, psychology, biology, and ethics into an integrated vision of human knowledge. Line of Truth challenges readers to reconsider what it means to know, to live, and to act responsibly in a complex world, offering an inspiring roadmap for personal development, scientific inquiry, and the ethical cultivation of consciousness. Lavarello's work illuminates the subtle threads connecting centuries of thought, emphasizing the continuity of human striving for meaning and the imperative to harmonize intellect, life, and the emerging challenges of a technologically mediated reality. In essence, Line of Truth is a journey toward the unity of knowledge, a meditation on the human condition, and a call to recognize truth as an active, relational, and ethical phenomenon - one that unfolds in the intersection of consciousness, symbol, and life itself.
