The Lobster Store. Codice articolo BBS-9781420865578
For six summers my husband and I have spent two weeks in a cottage on Great Wass Island off the coast of "Downeast" Maine. We have come to know and admire the cottage owners, a hard-working family who visibly love, support and enjoy each other. Joan, the daughter, a handsome, tall, lean brunette with hazel eyes and a welcoming smile works as hard as any man in the stern of her father's lobster boat. She lives in the home where she grew up, a gray shingled Cape overlooking their wharf and lobster pound. Enchanted by her Downeast accent, spectacular gardens, musical talent and love of animals, we asked her to share her store of childhood memories. This book is the nostalgic tale of a fisherman's daughter growing up at Black Duck Cove on Great Wass Island, Maine.
L'autore: Having many stories in my verbal repertoire from my 30 years of teaching English and Spanish, I always felt that someday I might write my first book to memorialize those years. Now that will have to be my second book. This first creation is a result of discovering something and someone entirely new: the lobster industry of Maine and an unusual woman working in that business. She actually prompted the writing by telling me she would love to preserve her childhood memories as a legacy for her daughter. As I listened to her stories on the cassette tapes she sent to me, I imagined my first book could be for a wider audience: people who love lobster, Maine, childhood memories and admirable family values. The thriftiness of content and style are meant to emphasize that characteristic of life in the family.
