Paperback. Look Upon His Face is a Catholic guide to devotion to the Holy Face of Jesus, its history, prayers, spirituality, and call to reparation. Catholic author and theologian Edward P. Martin explores the Holy Face devotion through Scripture, Catholic tradition, Sister Marie of St. Peter, the Golden Arrow Prayer, St. Therese of Lisieux, contemplative prayer, and traditional acts of reparation-showing how contemplating the Face of Christ can lead to deeper prayer, conversion, trust, and union with Jesus. In a world constantly competing for your attention, where do you turn your eyes? For generations, Catholics have found a powerful answer in the Holy Face of Jesus. This devotion invites Christians to contemplate the suffering and loving Face of Christ, especially in His Passion, and to respond to His love through prayer, conversion, reparation, and deeper communion with Him.Look Upon His Face introduces readers to the history and spiritual meaning of this beautiful Catholic devotion while providing practical ways to incorporate contemplation of the Holy Face into everyday life.Inside this Catholic guide, readers will discover: - The History of the Holy Face Devotion - Explore the development of devotion to the Face of Christ and its place within Catholic spirituality.- Sister Marie of St. Peter - Discover the nineteenth-century Carmelite nun whose spiritual experiences helped shape the modern Holy Face devotion and its emphasis on reparation.- The Golden Arrow Prayer - Learn about one of the prayers most closely associated with the Holy Face and its spirituality of reparation for offenses against the Holy Name of God.- St. Therese of Lisieux and the Holy Face - Discover why the saint famous for her Little Way was also Therese of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face, and how contemplation of Christ's suffering shaped her spirituality.- The Meaning of Reparation - Understand how Catholics can respond to sin and indifference toward God through prayer, conversion, sacrifice, Eucharistic devotion, and ordinary acts of love.- Contemplating the Face of Christ - Learn how simply turning one's attention toward Jesus can become a practice of prayer, trust, compassion, and love.- Traditional Holy Face Prayers - Pray with Catholic devotions associated with the Holy Face, including the Golden Arrow Prayer, Litany of the Holy Face, and a simple novena. The Holy Face is more than a sacred image.Ultimately, this devotion is about Jesus Christ Himself. His Face reveals the One who loves, suffers, forgives, and calls each person into communion with Him. To contemplate the Face of Christ is therefore not simply to look at an image. It is an invitation to encounter a Person. That invitation may be especially meaningful in a culture dominated by screens, images, notifications, and endless competition for our attention. The Christian response is remarkably simple: Look again at Christ. For Catholics seeking to understand the Holy Face of Jesus, Sister Marie of St. Peter, the Golden Arrow Prayer, St. Therese of Lisieux, reparation, contemplative prayer, and traditional Catholic devotions, Look Upon His Face offers an accessible introduction to a spirituality centered on attentive love for Jesus Christ.Step away from the noise. Fix your eyes on Christ. And discover the invitation contained in His Face. Escape the relentless chaos of modern life by discovering a profound spiritual refuge through a sacred devotion that transforms daily suffering into a source of divine peace and healing. Are you exhausted by the noise, anxiety, and endless demands of the modern world?
We live in an era where our eyes are constantly pulled in a dozen different directions. We scroll through chaotic images and absorb the world's heavy burdens, leaving our souls feeling entirely depleted. But what if there was one sacred image that could quiet the noise, heal your worries, and anchor your heart in perfect peace?
For centuries, the saints have discovered a hidden refuge in the sorrowful, loving countenance of Jesus Christ. The devotion to the Holy Face is not just a sentimental keepsake. It is a profound spiritual pathway to find deep rest for your own weary soul while actively bringing healing to a broken world.
In Look Upon His Face, you will uncover the rich history and deep theology behind this beautiful, under-appreciated treasure of the Catholic faith. Walking alongside saints like St. Thérèse of Lisieux and the hidden souls who revived this devotion in the nineteenth century, you will learn how to offer your daily struggles as powerful acts of love. This book guides you beyond simply keeping a picture on the wall, inviting you into a living, breathing relationship with our Lord.
Inside this beautifully accessible guide, you will discover how to:
- Pray the Golden Arrow: Learn the powerful, traditional prayer given to the saints to instantly comfort the heart of Jesus and make reparation for the sins of the world.
- Embrace the Little Way: Follow St. Thérèse's secret to finding profound peace and holiness in your ordinary, hidden daily sacrifices.
- Practice Daily Reparation: Turn your daily frustrations, unavoidable crosses, and small acts of patience into spiritual weapons of love.
- Find True Rest: Use the Holy Face as a sanctuary for your soul during times of anxiety, spiritual dryness, and overwhelming stress.
- Deepen Your Prayer Life: Access a curated collection of traditional prayers, the Litany of the Holy Face, and a simple five-day novena structure.
You do not need to be a cloistered monk or nun to embrace this life-changing devotion. Whether you are a busy parent, a stressed professional, or simply a soul longing for deeper intimacy with Christ, this book shows you exactly how to make the Holy Face the quiet center of your daily life.
Step out of the chaos. Fix your eyes on the Savior. Let His merciful gaze heal your wounds, restore your peace, and bring you true joy.
