Paperback. "Her Majesty: The Romance of the Queens of England, 1066-1910" provides a sweeping and evocative narrative of the women who have worn the crown of England over nearly a millennium. Beginning with Matilda of Flanders and concluding in the early 20th century, E. Thornton Cook chronicles the lives, trials, and triumphs of the nation's female sovereigns and consorts. This work delves into the personal and political complexities of queenship, illustrating how these women navigated the intricate power structures of the English court while shaping the course of national history.Through vivid storytelling, the author explores the distinct eras of the English monarchy, from the Norman and Plantagenet dynasties through the dramatic Tudor and Stuart periods, and into the modern era of the Hanovers. Each chapter serves as a portrait of a specific queen, highlighting her character, her influence on her husband's reign, and her legacy within the British identity. "Her Majesty" is a compelling blend of historical fact and narrative flair, offering readers a unique perspective on the evolution of the British throne through the lens of its most prominent women. It remains an essential volume for those fascinated by royal biography and the enduring legacy of the English monarchy. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
