The street clock has been stuck at 4:17 since before Madison was born.

On Monday, the city will take it for scrap.
Then the dead clock ticks.

A strange, illustrated mystery for ages 9–12, designed with dyslexic readers in mind—and for any child who wants a proper case without a wall of text.

Behind the face is a folded map. The X is not on the hut. At the rail cut, a door is already open. The key is still sealed in its bag. Someone has kept the clock silent for forty-one years.

Madison doesn't read fast. She looks. People keep confusing the two.

The mystery comes first. Ten short chapters keep the next clue close. Six atmospheric black-and-white illustrations let the reader inspect the objects. Large ragged-right paperback type and generous spacing give the words room; Kindle readers control their own type. One clue is for the reader to turn and solve.

For the child who wants a real mystery—and the grown-up who wants to see them finish one.

Suspense and a serious event from the past are handled without graphic detail. No child is harmed in the present-day story.

Some doors were shut for a reason.
