When the lights go out across the American Midwest, they don't come back on for four months.
For Emma Caldwell, the grid failure is more than a crisis -- it's a reckoning. Cut off from the digital tools she's been using to unravel the mystery of her father's disappearance, she turns to paper records, physical letters, and the slow patient work of an investigator who has learned to trust what she can hold in her hands.
For former Deputy James McClanahan, the darkness is a test. Moores Hill has survived before. Whether it survives this depends on the choices made in the first hours, the first days, and the long grinding weeks that follow.
Twelve miles away, the Battle over St. Leon is already being written into Indiana history.
And in Peru, a man who has been watching the seven sacred sites for twenty years watches his monitoring systems go dark -- and makes a decision he has been postponing for a very long time.
The Marked is the fourth installment in the Moores Hill Thriller Series -- a story about what communities become under pressure, what children inherit from the parents who leave them, and what happens when the ghost you've been chasing turns out to be real.
Some inheritances you don't discover. They discover you.
