Paperback. "Mazzini's Letters" offers a profound glimpse into the mind and heart of one of the most significant figures of the 19th-century Italian Risorgimento. Giuseppe Mazzini, the visionary revolutionary and political theorist, spent much of his life in exile, yet his influence on the unification of Italy and the development of modern European democracy was monumental. This collection, edited by the historian Bolton King and translated by Alice De Rosen Jervis, brings together a selection of Mazzini's correspondence that reveals his tireless commitment to the ideals of liberty, republicanism, and social justice. The letters span various periods of his life, touching upon his relationships with other European revolutionaries, his personal struggles, and his unwavering belief in the moral duty of the individual to the nation and humanity. From his thoughts on the "Young Italy" movement to his reflections on the duties of man, these writings serve as an essential primary source for understanding the intellectual underpinnings of the struggle for Italian independence. "Mazzini's Letters" is not only a historical record of a turbulent era but also a testament to the enduring power of political idealism and the quest for a united and free Italy. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
