Many years ago preventive medicine was hardly considered a branch of medicine, but as a result of a number of years of medical research much has been discovered as to the cause, and method of spread of many diseases affecting man. This knowledge has led to enormous emphasis being placed on the prevention of disease as well as on their treatment. It is quite clear that when more effort is made to prevent a disease, less effort will be needed for treatment, because the incidence of the disease will be decreased. This book has been compiled to further emphasize to the layman, the need for the practice of preventive medicine; realizing that success in such a practice can only be obtained when the layman is given information concerning disease processes, their causes, and methods of prevention in a readily understandable form.
