Paperback. Your father died a hero. You've told the story a thousand times. You've built your whole life on it. What if you're the one who made it up? Maren Lark is a narrative therapist on the Oregon coast. She helps people reshape the stories they tell about their lives - and she's very good at it. When her estranged brother dies and leaves behind an unfinished novel about their family, Maren is drawn back to the small Michigan town where a yellow house once stood, and where the truth about her father's death in a house fire has been waiting for twenty-six years. What she finds there will dismantle everything she believes about her family, her father, and herself. For readers who love: - Character-driven literary fiction with a slow-burning mystery at its core- Unreliable narrators and the stories families tell to survive- Novels about grief, memory, and the lies we inherit- Books that stay with you long after the last page A novel about memory, family silence, and the architecture of the stories we build to survive - and what happens when those stories come down.
