A sword has chosen a king. The kingdom hasn't chosen to believe it.
Arthur pulled Excalibur from the stone in front of every lord in Britannia — but a blade's judgment isn't the same as a crown freely given. In the north, the Saxons are mustering for one final, decisive fight. In the shadows of court, a woman with a very old grievance and a claim of her own is building a case that could unmake Arthur's kingship before he ever wears it — and she has found an ally old enough, and patient enough, to break something no mortal hand should be able to touch.
Merlin knows exactly what Excalibur is, and exactly what it cost to put it in that stone. It's a truth Arthur can never learn — and as the war drags toward its last battle and the coronation clock runs down, it becomes only one of the secrets he's fighting to protect.
Because far across the water, on an island no map remembers, a throne has stood empty for weeks. And something ancient, patient, and entirely without mercy has just decided that an empty throne is an invitation.
Twenty-two days to the crowning. A sword whose promise is no longer certain. And a door Merlin is about to walk through with nothing left standing between him and what's waiting on the other side.
Merlin and the Sword's Promise is the fourth book in the Merlin Saga — where legends are made not by the pulling of a sword, but by everything that happens after.
