Tasmania's West Coast is a unique region, with its spectacular scenery, rugged terrain and climate, and of course, it's vast mineral deposits. During the last century these mineral deposits were tapped and this lead the spread of settlement to the West Coast. Many towns flourished but the boom for some of them was short lived. Townships such as Magnet, Dunas, Ringville and Cratty, to name just a few. Are now mete names on maps. Others, such as Waratah, Queenstown, Zeehan, Rosebery are still thriving Townships. Queenstown and Rosebery have their own mines, whilst Waratah and Zeehan are residential towns for Que River and Renison mines. With mining goes Avery rich and fascinating history. The history of the Rosebery area is no exception. However, Rosebery had to a certain extent been ignored. The stories of Waratah. Zeehan and Queenstown behave all been very well documented. Rosebery is not on the tourist map to the some extent as Queenstown and Zeehan, and this may explain the lack of material on its history. The author came to R.D.H.S. in 1981 and found that for many children Rosebery was "The Mine". Not much was known about "The Mine". This document is an attempt to provide students at R.D.H.S. any any other interested parties, with a brief history nof the Rosebery area, and how Williamford, the railway and Zeehan Smelter behave all played their part in the development of Rosebery and because very little has ever been written about it. Very scarce and rare book. Published 1984.
