"The Moon-Element" provides a comprehensive and accessible exploration of selenium, a chemical element whose remarkable light-sensitive properties earned it a name inspired by the moon. Written by the distinguished physicist and inventor E. E. Fournier D'Albe, this work investigates the history, science, and practical applications of this unique substance. The text delves into the discovery of selenium's variable electrical resistance and its groundbreaking use in early photoelectric technology.

D'Albe, the inventor of the Optophone, details how selenium's reaction to light enabled the creation of devices that could translate visual information into sound, offering new possibilities for the visually impaired. The book also examines the early potential for television and light-telephony, positioning selenium as a cornerstone of modern telecommunications. By bridging the gap between theoretical physics and applied engineering, "The Moon-Element" serves as an essential historical account of the technological advancements of the early 20th century. It remains a fascinating read for those interested in the history of science, the development of sensing technology, and the ingenious individuals who harnessed the properties of the natural world to innovate for the future.
