This course is designed to introduce you to spoken Italian. It covers virtually the entire sound-system of the language and introduces the basic grammatical categories, and consists of thirty-four units that accompany the cassettes. "Programmed" means that the information is presented and practiced in small steps that are numbered, which in this case are called "frames." Innovative features in the text include; emphasis on concept understanding, analyses for Italian of intonation and double consonants. Renowned Italian linguists Stephen Zappala and Egle Camozzo designed, wrote and edited all the materials. Members of the talented FSI staff also contributed useful suggestions. Egle Camozzo, Emilia Francini, Giovanni Salvo, as well as Stephen Zappala himself voice the recorded program.
