Paperback. A borrowed wedding ring. Two husbands with the same initials. One marriage the public record lost. When a ring hidden inside a library book returns after fifty-five years, probate genealogist Anna Harland finds the initials E.M. + S.R. and the date 14 April 1946. The official index records Eliza Marsh marrying Stephen Rowan almost six months later. A harbour memorial says Samuel Reid died between the two dates. Now Margaret Vale has left Tern House to "the family of the husband my grandmother was forbidden to call her own". The Rowan relatives preserved the cottage for generations. The Reid family preserved a letter, a borrowed book and the memory of a marriage no register appears to contain. With records expert Maya Singh, Daniel Harland and solicitor Frances Morrow, Anna follows the evidence through a damaged counterfoil, a jeweller's hidden inscription, a rescue report, two family trees and a ring deliberately made to carry more than one truthful history. The answer can restore a husband's name and identify the intended heirs. But it must do so without erasing the second husband who protected the widow, raised another man's child and kept the first promise alive. The Name Inside the Borrowed Ring is a clean British inheritance mystery about marriage, identity, stewardship and the difference between correcting a record and replacing a life. It is Book Thirteen of The Loughhaven Inheritance Mysteries and resolves its central case completely. This item is printed on demand.
