Neuware - 'Nebraska Place-Names' by Lilian Linder Fitzpatrick is an essential scholarly examination of the origins and evolution of geographic names across the state of Nebraska. As a foundational work in the field of American onomastics, this volume meticulously documents the etymology behind the names of counties, towns, villages, and railway stations that define the Nebraska landscape. Fitzpatrick's research explores the linguistic and cultural influences that shaped these designations, from Indigenous roots and the legacy of early explorers to the names of pioneer settlers and influential political figures. This comprehensive reference serves as a vital resource for historians, genealogists, and linguists interested in the cultural geography of the Great Plains. By tracing the historical context of each entry, the work provides a unique lens through many layers of regional history, illustrating how the nomenclature of the land reflects the heritage and aspirations of its inhabitants. 'Nebraska Place-Names' remains a definitive guide for anyone seeking to understand the stories embedded in the maps of the Cornhusker State. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. This work was reproduced from the original artifact, and remains as true to the original work as possible. Therefore, you may see the original copyright references, library stamps (as most of these works have been housed in our most important libraries around the world), and other notations in the work. This work is in the public domain in the United States of America, and possibly other nations. Within the United States, you may freely copy and distribute this work, as no entity (individual or corporate) has a copyright on the body of the work.As a reproduction of a historical artifact, this work may contain missing or blurred pages, poor pictures, errant marks, etc. Scholars believe, and we concur, that this work is important enough to be preserved, reproduced, and made generally available to the public.
