Numbers Don't Lie: Simple Mindset Math for a More Meaningful Life

2 + 2 = 4. No one can change it. No committee can vote it away. No mood can alter it. What if the same unchangeable logic that governs mathematics also governs your soul?

We live in an age of radical relativism — where truth is treated as personal preference, meaning is endlessly deferred, and millions of people are quietly drowning in lives that look successful but feel hollow. We have more information than any civilization in history, and yet we are more confused than ever.

Numbers Don't Lie is a remedy for that confusion.

Ignatius D. West — former Navy Cryptology Officer, cybersecurity attorney, and risk analyst — has spent his career reading signals through noise, identifying system failures, and understanding how things collapse from the inside out. In this book, he turns that same clear-eyed discipline on the deepest questions of human life: Why do we stay stuck? Why do we feel empty despite our success? What are we actually building with our days?

The answer, he argues, is written in the math we already know.

Using the simple arithmetic principles you learned as a child — addition, zero, multiplication, infinity, and more — West reveals the unchangeable laws that govern not just numbers, but people. Each chapter takes one mathematical truth and unfolds it into a lens for the spiritual life:

• Nothing + Nothing = Nothing — the unforgiving law of initiative: if you plant nothing, you harvest nothing
• The Law of Reciprocity (a+b = b+a) — why every meaningful relationship must balance, and what to do when it doesn't
• A Positive × A Negative = A Negative — the terrifying power of influence, and why St. Paul's warning about "bad company" is not advice but arithmetic
• Infinity (∞) — why no finite thing — money, achievement, pleasure, fame — can ever satisfy the longing you feel, and what that restlessness is actually telling you
• Multiplying by Zero — how one zero in the equation nullifies everything else; what the Pharisees, Enron, and your own life have in common
• The Magic Echo of 9 — how your choices ripple outward through time in ways you cannot see or control
• The Outlier — why the bell curve is a map of mediocrity, not a mandate for it, and how the saints refused to be averaged
• Prime Living — how to build your life on foundations that cannot be divided, and why composite foundations always crack under pressure
• Adding It All Up — the final audit: what will the sum of your days be?

This is not a book of complex theory. You need no advanced mathematics, no philosophy degree, no theological training. If you can follow a recipe, you can follow this book. The math is simple. The implications are life-changing.

Drawing on the wisdom of Augustine, Aquinas, Thérèse of Lisieux, Fulton Sheen, and St. John Paul II — as well as modern psychology, behavioral economics, and research on deathbed regrets — West builds a case that the universe is not chaotic or morally neutral. It is ordered. And that order, reflected in the unchangeable truths of mathematics, points unmistakably toward a Creator who designed human beings for something far greater than the lives most of us are living.
