The second edition of this important collection of family letters, published the same year as the first. A later two volumes were published in 1789 and Fenn had the intention to produce a fifth volume which remained unfinished at his death.

This important work contains correspondence from members of this Norfolk gentry family, the Pastons, as well as other important state papers and documents, from 1422 to 1509. These letters are one of the greatest primary sources of life during the War of the Roses and early Tudor Period.

Illustrate with two hand-coloured plates, two engraved title pages, a folding genealogical table, and a further sixteen plates across both volumes. Collated and complete.

This copy contains a heraldic bookplate to the front pastedown of each copy with the Latin motto 'Nec temere, nec temide'. There is also another previous owner's bookplate to the front free-endpaper of each volume titled 'Rissa - her book'.

CONDITION REPORT:
In contemporary calf binding with five raised bands to each spine and morocco spine labels. Externally, some shelf wear to the boards, and rubbing to the spines and extremities. Heraldic bookplate to the front pastedown of each volume and previous owner's bookplate to the front free-endpaper of each volume. Internally, hinges are strained but otherwise firmly bound. Some light spotting to the pages and plates, but otherwise bright and clean, particularly for a work of this time.
