Descrizione dell’articolo da parte del venditore

Original publisher's yellow paper wrappers with staple binding. Bold red lettering on front cover reads, "10 Years; Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo." No date, circa 1948. 9" x 12." Unpaginated, all pages, complete. Many black-and-white illustrations, a few in color, complete. Many advertisements for various products and businesses are included. Pages are virtually pristine and intact except for light toning, small occasional marks or stains on interior, and small stains mostly limited to edges. Covers are very clean and intact except for light age toning, some staining and light soiling on front, and slight wrinkling. A Very Good copy. This is a promotional program for Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, a ballet company, for Season 1948-1949 which marks the company's 10th anniversary. The following are some of the contents: brief introduction about the company's 10th anniversary; the company's repertoire or repertory with synopses (may be a partial list); concept art; "Who's Who" section with brief biographical information about some of the company's dancers; and black-and-white photographic portrait illustrations of Alexandra Danilova, Frederic Franklin, Nathalie Krassovska, Leon Danielian, Ruthanna Boris, Mary Ellen Moylan, Gertrude Tyven, Roman Jasinsky, Robert Lindgren, and Yvonne Chouteau. Some of the advertised products and businesses: Houbigant, Coty, a mink coat by Revillon Freres, Caron, J. Berle, Juilliard, and Foreman fabrics. Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo (not to be confused with one of its predecessors, Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo) was founded in 1938 by Leonide Massine and Rene Blum. Blum and Colonel Wassily de Basil had formerly led the Ballets Russes company but parted ways in 1934. Following this, de Basil and Blum went on to form their own companies, Original Ballet Russe and Les Ballets de Monte Carlo, respectively. When Massine joined in 1938, Les Ballets de Monte Carlo was renamed Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo. Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo remained in business until 1968.
