Descrizione dell’articolo da parte del venditore

Original publisher's multicolored paper wrappers with staple binding. Color illustration by Christian Berard on front cover shows concept art for a stage scene (a blue sky with white clouds is in the background and in the foreground are decorative columns and abstracted figures) in Seventh Symphony. No date, circa 1950s. 9" x 12." Unpaginated, all pages, complete. Many black-and-white illustrations, complete. Pages are virtually pristine and intact except for light toning and small occasional marks or stains. Covers are very clean and intact except for light age toning, light to moderate rubbing, and slight wear to extremities. A Very Good copy. This is a promotional program for Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, a ballet company, for an unknown season (c. 1950s). The following are some of the contents: the company's repertoire or repertory with synopses (may be a partial list); "Who's Who" section with brief biographical information about some of the company's dancers; and black-and-white photographic portrait illustrations of Sergei J. Denham, Frederic Franklin, Igor Youskevitch, Nina Novak, Leon Danielian, Gertrudge Tyven, Yvonne Chouteau, Irina Borowska, Victor Moreno, Alan Howard, Christine Hennessy. Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo (not to be confused with one of its predecessors, Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo) was founded in 1938 by Leonide Massine and Rene Blum. Blum and Colonel Wassily de Basil had formerly led the Ballets Russes company but parted ways in 1934. Following this, de Basil and Blum went on to form their own companies, Original Ballet Russe and Les Ballets de Monte Carlo, respectively. When Massine joined in 1938, Les Ballets de Monte Carlo was renamed Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo. Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo remained in business until 1968.
