Neuware - 'Overland With Kit Carson' is a vivid first-hand account of a perilous journey across the American West in the mid-19th century. Written by George Douglas Brewerton, the narrative follows his 1848 expedition from Los Angeles to Santa Fe along the legendary Old Spanish Trail. Accompanied by the famed frontiersman Kit Carson, Brewerton provides an intimate look at the rugged landscapes, extreme hardships, and daily realities of frontier travel. The work captures the transition of the West during the era of the Mexican-American War and the dawn of the California Gold Rush. Readers are treated to detailed descriptions of the Mojave Desert, the crossing of the Colorado River, and the unique challenges posed by the wilderness. Beyond its geographical observations, the book serves as a character study of Kit Carson, portraying him not just as a historical legend, but as a skilled guide and leader in a harsh environment. This narrative is an essential primary source for those interested in Western expansion, mountain man lore, and the history of early American trails. Brewerton's prose brings the sights and sounds of the 1840s to life, making it a valuable resource for historians and enthusiasts of adventure literature alike. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
