THE ALLEGORY ILLUSTRATED WITH OUTLINE ENGRAVINGS, DRAWN BY J.R. CLAYTON; AND THE BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH, WITH ENGRAVINGS OF INTERESTING RELICS AND RECOLLECTIONS OF BUNYAN, FROM DRAWINGS BY J.L. WILLIAMS. "National Illustrated Library Edition" (as stated upon both title pages). Both title pages share same Simpkin, Marshall, and Co., 1856 imprint. [4], i-iv, 5-32, [b/w plate], 33-190, [b/w plate], 191-336 pages. Hardcover: H 19cm x L 13cm. Full leather binding; gilt tooling to both boards as well as spine; slender wear/scuffing at edges and along joints; gilt tooling to inner dentelles as well. All edges gilt. Light soiling to yellow endpapers; London, England bookseller ticket for Leighton Son & Hodge on rear pastedown. Appears to have an old glue repair at front hinge with some tearing to paper along the gutter but binding still quite firm. Light toning as well as some foxing and soiling to interior leaves. B/w illustrations inset amongst text along with unpaged b/w frontispiece and two full page b/w plates (all three retaining their guard sheets). Still a handsome edition.
