Dampstain to tail edge, edges worn with some fraying to the cloth, spine ends abraded, RFEP torn out, interior text sound and unmarked with tight, square binding. Bookplate of H. G. Stordock, whom we presume to be Halvor G. Stordock, a progressive Minnesota politician and prison warden. Stordock served 4 years as Warden of the Minnesotat State Penitentiary, an appointment not without some controversy. While there he implemented numerous reforms, including overseeing the establishment of 'Prison Mirror', which continues to be published today as the oldest and longest running prison newspaper in the US. Additionally, his obituary notes, 'he memorable winter of 1879, December 13 he left Manston station at 8 o?clock p.m. for his home, about a half distant, but the storm bewildered him and thirty-eight hours later he was found about ten miles from home, badly frozen. He was taken to Breckenridge and well cared for, and an iron constitution and a wonderful vitality enabled him to survive the ordeal, the lose of both feet and parts of both hands at the same time, which would have proven fatal to nine out of ten men, and to live more than fifteen years of active and useful life afterward. His physical disabilities now seemed to stimulate and sharpen the grand mental faculties and wonderful energy with which he was endowed.'. Codice articolo 508429
