Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Political radicalism and religious tradition often met in the same neighborhoods, libraries, and meeting halls of industrial Europe. For many Jewish intellectuals and workers, demands for social equality emerged not in opposition to moral tradition, but through reinterpretations of justice deeply rooted in communal experience and historical exclusion. This book traces the relationship between Jewish ethical thought and the rise of European labor movements during the nineteenth century. Urban poverty, industrial exploitation, and legal discrimination pushed many Jewish activists toward socialist organizing, trade unions, and revolutionary politics. Religious concepts concerning obligation, education, and collective responsibility frequently shaped the language of social reform even among increasingly secular intellectual circles. The narrative also follows the emergence of influential networks connecting writers, philosophers, journalists, and labor organizers across Europe. Their debates reshaped discussions surrounding class, citizenship, and political solidarity during an era marked by rapid industrial transformation and nationalist tension.By examining both theology and activism together, the book reveals how radical social movements often grew from older moral traditions rather than from ideological rupture alone.

Riassunto

Political radicalism and religious tradition often met in the same neighborhoods, libraries, and meeting halls of industrial Europe. Their debates reshaped discussions surrounding class, citizenship, and political solidarity during an era marked by rapid industrial transformation and nationalist tension. By examining both theology and activism together, the book reveals how radical social movements often grew from older moral traditions rather than from ideological rupture alone.
