The discovery of a packet of letters that had lain unopened for more than sixty years prompts the author's memories of boarding school life and her unusual missionary family. This biographical story of a young girl growing up in Britain during the Second World War tells how she and her older sister were separated for nearly seven years from their parents and brother by the global conflict and the turmoil of the times. In it she reflects on the impact of family separation and the experience of boarding school on her relationships and on the process of growing into adulthood.
