Ideologies are being used against us. More than ever, power hungry leaders exploit our vulnerability to belief-based appeals to advance their own personal agenda at our expense. Our failure to grasp this reality has allowed them to gain tremendous power over us.

Author John Kavanagh helps us to understand why these belief systems are so alluring and how they exploit our most heartfelt hopes, fears, and desires to accomplish their objectives. But he warns us not to be fooled by their seductive allures. Ideologies are neither as beneficial nor as benevolent as they may seem.

We must clearly recognize what we face as we are bombarded by the deceptive narratives our leaders promote. Kavanagh’s research into belief systems helps expose the myths surrounding our most popular political and religious ideologies. Using historical and current examples, he explains their true nature, what drives their success, and why they are so dangerous for us all.

He shows us how they polarize societies, rationalize and sustain brutal oppression, prolong violent conflict, justify mass murder, and retard mankind’s social progress. He demonstrates that ideologies are riddled with errors, deception, and manipulative emotional appeals. At their core, they are deeply flawed responses to life’s pervasive challenges.

Kavanagh stresses the importance of insulating ourselves from ideological appeals and makes a powerful argument for establishing our own independent thought. He critiques ideologies of both the left and right and demonstrates the huge benefits of clear, analytical, evidence-based thinking. He further suggests that there are alternative belief systems available to us that address our most critical needs without the negative consequences of traditional ideologies.

Path to Power, Road to Ruin is targeted at a general audience and written in a very accessible style so as to provide ordinary people with a clear path to ideological freedom.
