How can you get your farmer away for a holiday?
How can you feed eight contractors with ten minutes’ notice?
How can you ensure you get along with your mother-in-law?
Tips on mastering the "wellies by day, heels by night" transformation.
What do you do with a wellie with a hole in it?
These questions – big and small – and many others are answered by farmer’s wife and writer Lorna Sixsmith. She knows what it is like to have the village appraise your signature dish, how to stay calm during the dreaded “testing”, how to interpret “farm speak”, and what to do to keep the hens happy. More importantly, she knows how to cheat to give the impression you are a PERFECT farm wife. This book is packed with history, advice, recipes, hints and tips (and quizzes along the way to see how you measure up). The best advice is always to keep a sense of humour, and Lorna’s shines through in her writing.
This is a perfect read for all farm wives and girlfriends (and husbands and boyfriends), and country lovers everywhere.
"I laughed out loud several times. This book brings a sense of energy and perspective to the subject of farming, which is refreshing and ultimately uplifting" Irish Independent
"As an investment banker turned farmer's wife, this is funny, educational, really interesting and exactly what I need." Aideen Fleming
"I laughed most of the way through" Mary James MBE, Mendip Times
"It is not simply a delightful page-turner, not is it only for those with a farming background. Despite the tongue-in-cheek title and chapter headings that suggest a light-hearted read, the book is eminently informative and revealing about the position of women in Irish society." Ciara Meehan, Head of History, University of Hertfordshire.
"Lorna’s second book on the ups and downs of life as a farmer’s wife is a delightful read, full of sharp observations on the realities of an agricultural life, mixed with a little social history, the odd recipe and some priceless tips on how to achieve the mythical status of the Perfect Farm Wife. I will be giving copies to several friends who I suspect secretly harbour an ambition of becoming the Perfect Farm Wife." Horse and Countryside
"This book will also fulfil the role of an old friend, waiting quietly until she is needed for advice and reassurance, or is simply sought out for the pleasure of her company" Farming Life
