Paperback. Elliot Mercer came to a new university determined to begin again.A gifted but restless history graduate student, Elliot is used to following questions no one else thinks to ask. When a decades-old flood-risk map leaves an entire Eastbank street unnamed, he becomes determined to discover whether Mason Lane was merely overlooked, or deliberately excluded from the city's version of its own disaster.Professor Adrian Vale has spent years teaching students to respect uncertainty, question official records, and never mistake a blank space for proof. Brilliant, private, and exacting, Adrian knows more about the Eastbank flood than he is willing to say. Years earlier, he began investigating the same map with a collaborator who left both the university and the work behind. As Elliot's research pulls him deeper into forgotten archives, damaged records, and the lives hidden behind a missing line on a map, the distance between student and professor grows increasingly difficult to maintain. Their conversations become charged. Their intellectual sparring turns intimate. And one reckless kiss forces them both to confront the boundary neither of them can ignore. But the truth about Mason Lane may expose more than a failure of city planning. It may uncover the reason Adrian abandoned the most important work of his life-and make Elliot question whether he can trust the man who has been guiding him all along.Tender, intelligent, and full of aching restraint, The Place on the Map is a slow-burn M/M academic romance about ambition, ethical choices, unfinished grief, and the courage to be seen. Elliot Mercer came to a new university determined to begin again.
A gifted but restless history graduate student, Elliot is used to following questions no one else thinks to ask. When a decades-old flood-risk map leaves an entire Eastbank street unnamed, he becomes determined to discover whether Mason Lane was merely overlooked, or deliberately excluded from the city's version of its own disaster.
Professor Adrian Vale has spent years teaching students to respect uncertainty, question official records, and never mistake a blank space for proof.
It may uncover the reason Adrian abandoned the most important work of his life-and make Elliot question whether he can trust the man who has been guiding him all along.
Tender, intelligent, and full of aching restraint, The Place on the Map is a slow-burn M/M academic romance about ambition, ethical choices, unfinished grief, and the courage to be seen.
