"Plane Curves of the Third Order" is a rigorous and detailed mathematical treatise exploring the geometry and algebraic properties of cubic curves. Authored by Henry Seely White, this work provides a systematic classification and analysis of third-order curves, which are fundamental to the field of algebraic geometry. The text examines the complex relationships between points, tangents, and inflections, offering a thorough investigation into the structural characteristics that define these specific geometric entities.

Throughout the volume, White employs both synthetic and analytic methods to describe the various species of cubics and their projective properties. The work is designed to guide the reader through the foundational theories of the time, providing clear proofs and logical developments of theorems related to plane curves. Its focus on the intrinsic properties of third-order curves makes it an essential resource for those studying the history of mathematics and the evolution of geometric thought. "Plane Curves of the Third Order" stands as a significant contribution to the mathematical literature of the early 20th century, serving as an important reference for scholars and students interested in the specialized study of algebraic curves and projective geometry.
