This Book covers a variety of issues on urbanization. It covers diverse aspects touching on: Theories of land use and urbanization, contemporary urbanization in developing countries, looks at the application of postcolonial theories and methodologies in urban planning studies. The book indicates how the theory of structuration (by Anthony Giddens) and particularly the concept of structure and agency can inform the conceptual understanding of urbanization in 'newly urbanizing' areas around cities in developing countries. Rich details on 'lived in' experiences by people occupying these spaces and places are well articulated and their implications on planning theory and practice well analysed using the Nairobi rural-urban fringe as a case study. The book further recommends future research directions based on reflections that emanated from the field research experience and indepth literature review.
L'autore: The author holds a PhD in Geography and Environmental Planning from University of Waikato, New Zealand; Master's and Bachelor's Degrees in the same fields. He teaches at the Kenyatta University, Kenya. He has written and researched widely on topical issues in his fields of expertise. He is passionate about postcolonial theories and methodologies.
