One out of five kids becomes addicted to computer and video games. Each year the video game industry raises its revenue (projected to reach $33 billion by 2008) with newer, more advanced, and more addictive games -- games that are increasingly linked to violent and self-destructive behavior in such high-profile tragedies as the Columbine and Paducah shootings. Is your child at risk, and if so, what can you do? PLAYSTATION NATION exposes the very real threat of video games to our children: their capacity to turn vibrant, well-balanced kids into emotionally and socially impaired individuals unable to function as productive members of society. Spurred on by the patterns of addiction they saw developing in their own son, Kurt and Olivia Bruner share their message with concerned parents grappling with the videogame dilemma and arm them with hard facts about addiction. Using the personal stories of former video game addicts to help parents identify the warning signs in their children, the Bruners recommend courses of action for all circumstances: kids who have not been exposed to videogames, those who are light users, and those whose patterns of use indicate heavy dependence. PLAYSTATION NATION is a must-read for all parents.
