Paperback. "Poem on the Assumption; Poem on the Day of Judgement; Divisiones Mundi" is a scholarly collection of significant Anglo-Norman literary works that provide a window into the spiritual and intellectual world of the Middle Ages. Edited with academic rigor by O.H. Prior, this volume brings together three distinct poems that explore the boundaries of faith, judgment, and the physical world. The first two poems, "Poem on the Assumption" and "Poem on the Day of Judgement," are profound examples of medieval devotional literature. They delve into essential theological themes, from the veneration of the Virgin Mary to the dramatic anticipation of the final reckoning. These verses reflect the religious intensity and eschatological concerns that shaped the medieval consciousness. The third work, "Divisiones Mundi," shifts toward the didactic, offering a poetic survey of medieval cosmography and geographical understanding. By blending scientific observation with the traditional knowledge of the era, it illustrates how medieval thinkers conceptualized the structure of the earth. This collection is an invaluable resource for those interested in the evolution of the Anglo-Norman language, medieval religious history, and the literary traditions of Western Europe. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
