Brown cloth with gilt lettering and black and gilt decorations. Minor rub to head and heel of spine, tips of corners. Pencil notation to front endpaper. Text is overall clean and bright, two pressed flowers have left ghosts on two pages. Frontis illustration of the author with tissue guard and facsimilie signature shows light foxing. This volume, published in 1872, before the author's presence in Europe made his personal cognisance and supervision of such a work possible, was desultory and incomplete, even for the time of its publication.
