Modern Library number 309.1; the inside of the dust jacket lists 403 titles, so this is a Fall 1961 reprint (ML 1e was 1960); edited and with an introduction by Gertrude Himmelfarb. Bound in green boards with gold lettering in black boxes on the front board and spine; top page edges tinted gray; Kent endpapers; rear panel of Toledano 8j1 dust jacket features the flaming stream over the torchbearer's head (1960-1961). A red stamp on the inside back board, else unmarked; spine square; corners sharp, spine ends bumped. The dust jacket is not price-clipped (original price $1.95); chipped and edgeworn; a one-inch closed tear with creasing at the bottom of the front panel, and a half-inch closed tear at the top of the back flap; Brodart protected.
