"The Preparatory Manual of Explosives" has been broken down into several categories. These categories can best be explained by the following: The book begins with a brief section on the foundation of chemical bonds and molecules.
Next, the reader is introduced to basic laboratory procedures, and is given a complete tutorial on such operations. After the reader has been familiarized with laboratory techniques, he/or she is casually introduced to the world of explosives with a complete (yet simplified) guide to the dynamics of detonation, safety and welfare, and explosives theory.
Once the reader has gained knowledge of what explosives really are, they are propelled into a virtual laboratory where they will learn how to prepare a multitude of high explosives and high explosive cocktails.
The preparation of the high explosives utilizes laboratory techniques and procedures, and every procedure includes the exact gram quantities of all necessary chemicals, the lab setup, temperature control, extraction and isolation of the high explosives, followed by the drying of the explosive, and where and how the dry explosive should be stored. Also included in each procedure are necessary hazards and safety practices used for each preparation.
As a bonus, also included in a number of the processes are crucial laboratory processes such as distillation, recrystallization, and extraction techniques.
