The letter notes his college classmate and fellow Mountain Regionalist writer James Hill had visited him and said the addressee (probably the Progressive Farmer) was about to accept more stories. The story he tentatively named "The Man Ahead of us." was later printed with the editor changing it to "The Man Ahead of You." After giving some more information about Hill, Stuart notes two stories he has sent the publisher. He goes on to note it has been a rough summer that he was confined due to a heart blockage which his doctor called a "silent attack", he is now able to write. He wrote his last work flat on his back with a pencil since the ink wouldn't flow upside down. Nicely inscribed.
