The God Spoke - and from the echo came not truth but religions. The Problem of Divine Self-Communication is a Christological reading of the Qur'an that refuses to align with any familiar camp. The book does not deify Jesus - but neither does it deny why he stands so unshakably at the center. It does not reject scripture - but neither does it ignore the limits of the word. Between God's insistence on speaking and the endless unraveling of speech, Dogan traces an arc reaching from Nicaea to the Qur'an, from Heraclitus and Philo to the Himyarite inscription.
At its center lies a philological voyage of discovery. Why does the Basmala carry two attributes - al-Raḥmān and al-Raḥīm - if both merely mean "merciful"? Dogan shows that this is not a matter of degree but of two distinct ontological levels: al-Raḥmān as the foundational source, reserved for God alone; al-Raḥīm as action realized in flux, attributable to humans as well. Archaeological evidence from pre-Islamic South Arabia - including inscriptions bearing the formula "al-Raḥmān and His Son the Messiah" - adds a startling historical depth to this reading.
From here the book unfolds a dense web of trails: the birth of the Logos from the grand synthesis of Heraclitus, the Stoa, and Philo; the dilemma of Hū and Allāh; the Christological correspondences of God's attributes; the Trinity and Tawḥīd seen as two discourses of a single truth. Dogan reads Ṭāriq, al-Qāriʿa, and al-Isrāʾ as hidden addresses, deciphers the "Ulū Code," and enters perhaps the most enigmatic problem of Qur'anic scholarship - the ḥurūf al-muqaṭṭaʿa, the mysterious letters at the openings of certain Sūras - an equation with fourteen unknowns, boldly associated with the fourteen Apostles.
Yet the text never loses itself in speculation. Every thesis rests on a close reading of the Arabic phrasing, on the etymology of the Semitic languages, and on the history of exegesis - from al-Zamakhsharī and al-Rāzī to modern scholarship. The story of Moses and al-Khiḍr, the distinction between muḥkam and mutashābih, the oscillation between tanzīh and tashbīh: the concern is always only the question of how meaning shifts and who holds authority over it.
Dogan writes a book that is neither apologetic nor polemical. He passes no judgment on God, but dismantles the voices that rise in God's name. His style is at once literary and precise - a mode of thought that places encounter ahead of explanation, existence above decision.
It is a bold, erudite, and deeply original work for anyone drawn to comparative religion, Qur'anic exegesis, early Christology, and the philosophy of language - and for every reader willing to pursue a question that has gone unrested for fifteen centuries.

Effetti del recesso
