Prophets of Yesterday and Their Message for Today. Questo articolo non è disponibile.Prophets of Yesterday and Their Message for Today

"Prophets of Yesterday and Their Message for Today" is a profound exploration of the intersection between literature, philosophy, and religious faith. Based on a series of lectures delivered at Harvard University, author John Kelman examines the enduring spiritual and intellectual legacies of three pivotal Victorian figures: Thomas Carlyle, Matthew Arnold, and Robert Browning. Kelman situates these "prophets" within the context of their own era while skillfully demonstrating how their insights into the human condition, morality, and the divine remain strikingly relevant for the challenges of the modern age.

The work delves into the contrasting yet complementary perspectives of these thinkers-Carlyle's rugged idealism, Arnold's quest for culture and clarity, and Browning's robust faith. By analyzing their responses to the rising tide of materialism and doubt in the nineteenth century, Kelman provides readers with a roadmap for navigating the complexities of spiritual life. This volume serves as both a scholarly critique of Victorian thought and an inspiring call to recognize the timeless wisdom found in the struggle between tradition and progress. "Prophets of Yesterday and Their Message for Today" is an essential read for those interested in the history of ideas, the development of modern theology, and the enduring power of English literature.
