A proud and selfish tree, chosen to form the cross for Jesus's Crucifixion, is humbled as it watches the suffering Jesus endures

The beloved best-selling children's story The Proud Tree is now available in a trade paperback edition. This timeless tale relates the story of the crucifixion from the point of view of Rex, the tree that became the cross on which Jesus died. Rex, the straightest and sturdiest tree in the whole forest, arrogantly assumes he's destined for some high honor in the "king's" service. It isn't until he feels the gentle, loving strength of Jesus' shoulder on the way to Calvary that the cruelty of the moment begins to dawn on him. Through the final hours of Jesus' life, Rex comes to realize the power of humble love. The story ends with a quiet promise of birth and new life -- the central teaching of the Christian faith.Illustrated in full color, this wonderful story will teach elementary school children a valuable lesson in humility and love while also helping them to understand the power of Jesus' love and the importance of his sacrifice.
