Rubbed to the extremities, a few handling marks, , gilt 'Psalms' to the spine. Early ink signatures to the ffep. Pages with foxing, but no staining. Complete. 415, [1] pages Note: Between the 17th and early 19th centuries, the Church of Scotland, a Presbyterian body, had a significant but complex relationship with Belfast and the wider region of Ulster. While not the established church (that was the Church of Ireland), Scottish Presbyterianism became deeply embedded in the region due to migration and settlement patterns. This led to both cooperation and conflict with the established church and the native Catholic population. It's a version of the Psalms of David, translated into metrical form for singing in worship services, specifically as approved by the Church of Scotland. This edition was stereotyped and printed by Simms & McIntyre. The Church of Scotland's version is known as the Scottish Psalter and is a common heritage in English-speaking churches. Most of the Psalms in this Psalter are in common meter (8,6,8,6).
