Diamond nitrogen vacancy (NV) color centers have the potential to transform quantum information science into a practical technology. In the first two sections, contributing authors provide an introduction to quantum information science, including characterization tools designed to test and measure the properties of diamond materials and review research on developing diamond quantum information processing. Chapters in the final section look at emerging applications in such areas as sensors, neural circuits and superconductors.
