Research is a journey towards a horizon that recedes with each step. To be open to it is to go beyond the known and grasp what will (perhaps) only become rationally investigable later. In particular, artistic research tends to capture the thing itself, what remains unsaid in what is said. The book proposes a survey of the theoretical foundations of research, a critical analysis of the institutional and legal framework of artistic research in Italy and the problems it entails for the recognition of its value - also linked to the complexity of the language of art (a theme of the essay) and the peculiarity of the figure of the artist, whose vocation, communicative capacity and charisma are investigated.
