RAGNAR
Book One of the Ragnar Saga
Forty years after the gods came back, the man they came back for is about to find out why.
When the reactors under Las Vegas melted down, they didn't end the world. They woke it up. A rune burned in the sky for forty-three seconds, the desert became a rain-drowned jungle, and children were born who weren't quite human anymore, orcs, trolls, elves, fairies, a whole new world grown over the ruins of the old one. They call it the Shift. They call what's left New Vegas.
Ragnar Thorsson was born the night it happened, and he's spent forty years as the most dangerous man in the valley, a mercenary with a monofilament axe, a taste for Norse mythology, and luck that borders on the supernatural. He tells himself the luck is his own.
It isn't.
When a routine rescue job puts a terrified woman in his path, Ragnar walks straight into the closing move of a plan four decades in the making, orchestrated by the data-baron who owns half the city and has been watching Ragnar since the day he was born. To survive it, Ragnar will need more than his axe. He'll need a barkeep who judges souls by breakfast, an orc fixer with no patience and no chrome, a nun who has prayed for him every night of his life, and a family he never knew he was assembling, because the man who built this trap accounted for everything except the people who would love Ragnar enough to die for him.
Brutal, bloody, and shot through with pitch-black humor, Ragnar is grimdark cyberpunk soaked in Norse myth, a story about severed limbs and found family, doomed gods and stubborn love, and the terrible price of being the one person a dying world decided to save.
Book One of the Ragnar Saga: a complete story with a beginning, middle, and end, and the doorway into a saga that's only getting started. If you like your apocalypse with heart, a high body count, and a filthy sense of humor, in the vein of Joe Abercrombie, Nicholas Eames, and Jason Pargin, pull up a chair at the Longhouse. There's stew on.
